Adventure Bay ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ Hobart

Adventure Bay ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ Hobart

I drag myself away from the creature comforts of my first ever Warm Showers host.

I decide to adopt the more direct route over to Cloudy Bay. Thatโ€™s then up Mount Mangana โ›ฐ๏ธ John informs me itโ€™s steep in places, but Iโ€™m nevertheless going to give it a go! Canโ€™t be that bad I muse!

571 meter climb over what seemed like no kilometers in length, is a very steep climb indeed. I had to walk frequently, which is harder at times than cycling! Even at times struggling to acquire traction with my worn-out cycling shoes. The summit is a welcome rest-bite. From here a pleasant leisurely descent towards Cloudy Bay. Cloudy Bay is an extremely popular cove for surfers. ๐Ÿ„โ€โ™‚๏ธ

Already I have an eye out for a wild camping spot โ›บ Yes, itโ€™s early, but a lot of the land looks private, so I need I seize what is on offer sooner than later. Scrambling in the dark is not an option!

I find a lane disappearing into the shrub. Which then opens out onto the river flowing off to Cloudy Bay. A kayak lies next to a slip of level ground. Thatโ€™ll do nicely. Perfect snake ๐Ÿ country though, but with the nights getting a tad chilly most snakes by now will be in hibernation. We hope!

As Iโ€™m enjoying my evening meal (Yep, pasta and tuna!) when a car ๐Ÿš— turns up. This was not in the master plan! First time Iโ€™ve ever been disturbed by mortal beings. The occupant nevertheless has not sighted me as he turns the car around.

A man with a long-goatee-beard and tattoos emerges from behind the hedge. Heโ€™s the one that is startled! From his appearance, I expected a โ€˜Bogunโ€™. The man then speaks in a soft, thoughtful way. Iโ€™m taken aback. We natter for a bit. Heโ€™s off for a swim ๐ŸŠโ€โ™‚๏ธ โ€œIn that water?โ€ I inquirer.

His thick wetsuit is on and in he goes for 20 minutes up and down. Iโ€™m not following him! Once pleasantries are exchanged, heโ€™s gone. I settle back into my tent for the night.

The next morning I rise to a gorgeous day ๐ŸŒ… A gentle cycle to the ferry and back to Kettering.

A ferry โ›ด๏ธ crossing is far more rewarding than getting on an aircraft. Nice pace of life! Thinking, fewer flights, and more ferryโ€™s next time.

Once again, as with New Zealand, the letterboxes are amusing.

Once back at Dessieโ€™s Oyster Cottage, I set about finishing of the firewood store for her winter fuel. Trees already toppled need clearing, plus large roots dug out of the driveway. The woodman in me is content! ๐ŸŒณ

After procrastinating for far too long (Again!) Iโ€™m eventually back on the bike and depart the beautiful Oyster Cottage and superb hospitality from Dessie. I have eaten well, again!

Iโ€™m kindly offered a room ๐Ÿก in Hobart with John and Ali. Yes, my Warm Showers host from Bruny Island!

A day of rest (Another!) is endured as a tourist in Hobart. Exploring the Hobart Museum. Very good and I would heartily recommend.

A final meal is enjoyed with John, Ali, Cloe, plus friends. Thank you to them and Dessie. True human beings ๐Ÿง
