Argentat 🇫🇷 Bugeat

Argentat 🇫🇷 Bugeat

I wake up to a drizzly day near Argentat. All the time thinking, OH it’ll clear up soon and the sun will come out! Not knowing, I’m cycling into one of the wettest months in May on record for France! ☔

I spend the day meandering up the V87.

My next wild camp, no.35 is in the woods near Gumond. Nice and quiet, but awfully wet. I try and dry things out, but that’s useless, as it’s still raining! 🌂 During the night I get out of the tent for a wee, only to put my foot in my trainers and feel a soggy squash underneath the arch of my foot. I instantly knew what it was, but natures call comes first. Back in my tent, I remove my trainer to find a flat-yellow-slug … eish! OH well, it won’t be bothering me again! I peel it off, wipe my foot clean and go back to sleep listening to the patter of rain on the fly ⛺ There’s always worse things one can step on!

Obviously, the following day it’s still raining. I set off in my already wet attire! 🌧 There’s invariably a positive, though, it’s, not, cold! I head for the town of Engletons. The back of my mind, a roof over my head for the night. This I find in the Hôtel** Restaurant Borie. I think it was €40. With only one night I endeavor to wash and dry everything by the morning. Wishful thinking!

I reluctantly set forth the following morning with an unpromising forecast. But me been me, it’ll be fine! I fill up with supplies at the local supermarket before heading towards Bugeat. All the time thinking, go back to the Hotel, it’s not going to improve! It didn’t improve. It got a whole lot worse! The falling water just intensified as the day wore on. At times coming sideways too!

I contemplate wild-camping again 🏕️ but in the knowledge everything is drenched I call into the little tourist office in Bugeat. The lovely lady tells me there’s a B & B in town run by an English woman. I forget the costs … “I’ll have a room,” I say. No room at the Inn, though! At that moment a guy in the tourist office recommends a cabin at the local campsite. OH a cabin I think that’ll be dear, but wait a minute, it’s a roof, I’ll take a look. It’s a 5 minute cycle down the road. The camp lady shows me my (basic) cabin. She puts the heater on … “I’ll have it” I say! 😅 It’s modest with a bed and two bunks. Shower to be taken in the camp shower block. It’s perfect. Apart from me and a few motorhomes on the extensive site, there’s no one else around. 😎 That yellow slug had the last laugh, I had a itching blister for the next few weeks!
